The basics

One county, one jail, one address

The Cherokee County Adult Detention Center — the ADC — is at 498 Chattin Drive, Canton, GA 30115. It is operated by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and it is the only detention facility in the county. Everyone arrested anywhere in Cherokee County is booked there, whether the arresting agency was the Sheriff’s Office, Canton PD, Woodstock PD, Holly Springs PD, Ball Ground PD or the Georgia State Patrol.

A warning about the address. A great many third-party sites list the jail at 1130 Bluffs Parkway. That is the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners building, not the jail. If you drive to Bluffs Parkway looking for your loved one, you will have wasted the trip.

The facility is accredited by the American Correctional Association and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care, and the Sheriff’s Office has published a perfect score on both the ACA mandatory and non-mandatory standards for 2022.

Scam alert

The Sheriff will never call you asking for money

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office posts this warning on its own inmate search page, in capital letters: it will never call family members of inmates and request money. That includes calls about bond, ankle monitors, electronic monitoring or pretrial release.

If you get a call demanding payment to release someone or to “avoid” an ankle monitor fee, it is a scam. Hang up. Call the jail at 678-493-4200, or call us at 770-224-9150 and we will verify the person’s status for free.

How bonds work here

The four ways a bond gets posted in Cherokee County

The Sheriff’s Office publishes exactly four routes. Which one is right depends on the bond amount, what you have available and how fast you need the person out.

“A BOND IS NOT A FINE.” That is the Sheriff’s own language. Posting a bond buys release pending court — it does not resolve the case or satisfy any obligation to the court.

First appearance

When a judge sets the bond

Cherokee County Magistrate Court operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and staffs seven part-time judges — all experienced trial attorneys — specifically to handle initial appearance and bail hearings for every person booked into the Adult Detention Center.

The court’s published duty is “seeing all persons arrested within 72 hours to set bail at first appearance hearings.” Georgia law backs that up: O.C.G.A. § 17-4-62 requires release if a person arrested without a warrant is not brought before a judicial officer within 48 hours, and § 17-4-26 requires presentation within 72 hours on an arrest under a warrant.

No official Cherokee County source publishes a first-appearance calendar with fixed days and times. If someone tells you “hearings are at 9 a.m. daily,” they are guessing. Call Magistrate Court at 678-493-6431 or call us and we will check the docket.

Visitation

All visits are video — and Wednesdays are closed

The ADC uses iWebVisit for all visitation. There are no contact visits.

Money & property

Commissary, funds and getting belongings back

The Sheriff does not publish a standard inmate mailing address format. Call Inmate Records at 678-493-4209 before sending mail so it is not returned.

Straight answers

Questions we get asked

498 Chattin Drive, Canton, GA 30115. Not 1130 Bluffs Parkway — that is the Board of Commissioners.

The main jail line is 678-493-4200. For bond questions specifically, the Sheriff’s Bond Administrator is 678-493-4164, and Inmate Records is 678-493-4209.

The Sheriff’s Office does not publish bonding-window hours, so we will not state them as fact. What is published is that Magistrate Court operates 24/7/365 to set bail. Call the Bond Administrator at 678-493-4164, or call us and we will confirm the current situation before you drive out.

Use the Sheriff’s inmate search. Note that the old county URL has been retired and now redirects — the current roster lives on the Sheriff’s own site. Our inmate search guide walks through it.

The Sheriff does not publish a booking duration and we will not invent one. It depends on the time of day, how many people came in at once, and whether medical screening is required. Call us and we will check where they are in the process.

The Adult Detention Center at 498 Chattin Drive is the only county detention facility listed by the Sheriff’s Office. Juvenile matters go through Cherokee County Juvenile Court at the Justice Center.
